The recently announced innovation allows Brazilian tourists to pay for their purchases in France, especially in Paris, using Pix, through private platforms such as VoucherPay operated by PagBrasil.

Overview

The recently announced innovation allows Brazilian tourists to pay for their purchases in France, especially in Paris, using Pix, through private platforms such as VoucherPay operated by PagBrasil. Consumers scan a QR Code generated at the point of sale, make payment in reais and the amount is automatically converted to euros, with a service fee of around 3% and IOF as it is an international transaction. Some establishments also offer the option of paying in up to 10 installments. Stores aimed at the Brazilian public are seeking to adopt this payment option, a reflection of the relevance of this profile within the Parisian tourist trade. Although this is not yet an official integration of international Pix proposed by the Central Bank of Brazil, the tool adopted by fintechs greatly facilitates the purchasing process abroad, offering a more economical and agile alternative compared to international cards, with potentially lower rates and less exposure to exchange rate variations. The initiative also benefits local merchants, who pay fewer fees compared to card operators and are less exposed to fraud.
