Overview
Mexico confirms resumption of the electronic visa for Brazilians from February 2026. The Mexican government officially signed the return of the electronic visa for Brazilian citizens, establishing the date of February 5, 2026 as the start of this new modality. The measure responds to a historic appeal from the hotel and tourism sectors in the Mexican Caribbean, such as representatives of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, who report a significant drop in the flow of visitors after the suspension of the electronic visa in 2022. According to the Mexican government, the reintroduction meets the need to reinforce the country's positioning as a tourist and business destination, in addition to facilitating international mobility between Brazil and Mexico. Furthermore, the resumption of the electronic visa is in line with Mexico's strategy focusing on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the aim of attracting visitors and consolidating the country among the five most visited destinations in the world by 2030. The agreement also defines that, for reasons of national security, public order or health, the system may be temporarily or permanently suspended by the Mexican Government and Foreign Affairs secretariats. The Tourism Secretariat will be responsible for publishing updates regarding the operation of the new procedures. Until the e‑Visa comes into force, Brazilians will still need to apply for a physical visa at Mexican representations in Brazil.
